The race for Kansas governor will be decided tonight. So will many other elected offices throughout Kansas and the nation. Barton County Clerk Bev Schmeidler reminds voters that the election now moves from early voting at the courthouse to a 12-hour block at local polling places.

"We had a good turnout Saturday, and we've been real busy (Monday morning)," she said. "Tuesday, Election Day, the polls will open at 7 a.m. and close at 7 p.m."

Once again, the clerk's office is relying heavily on the work of volunteers to handle the election. Schmeidler said between 50 and 60 volunteers will be utilized today and throughout the vote.

"We're very grateful for all the people that help us out on Election Day, as board workers at the polls," she said. "Without them, we wouldn't be able to get this election taken care of."

There are nine voting locations spread throughout Barton County, including four inside Great Bend city limits. The northwest corner of the county will vote at the Hoisington Activity Center, and the northeast corner of the county will vote at the Immaculate Conception Parish Hall in Claflin. Residents in the southeast corner of the county will vote at the St. Joseph Parish Center in Ellinwood.

The clerk's office will begin posting local election results sometime after polls close at 7 p.m. Tuesday evening. Those results can be found on the bartoncounty.org website. To find your polling location, CLICK HERE or call the clerk's office at (620) 793-1835.
