Chamber of commerce directors serve an essential role in the sustainability of small towns throughout Central Kansas. And now Ellinwood is looking for that person. With the departure of former director Jordan Waite at the end of August, the Ellinwood Chamber of Commerce is looking for an energetic someone to fill her shoes.

"What we would like to see happen with that chamber is really get to the roots of what it's meant to do," said Chamber President Danielle French. "That is be there for our businesses, to recruit businesses into Ellinwood, and be the face of Ellinwood - going around and getting into those businesses who are our chamber members, recruiting more chamber members, really somebody who is gung ho about getting out in the public and being creative."

Waite served as director for several years before accepting a position at Sterling College earlier this summer. The chamber board is now in a difficult spot of finding the right person for an important job, but one that's only part-time at 20-25 hours a week.

"Of course, After Harvest Festival, that will require more time than certain other parts of the year," French said. "Obviously, whenever we have an event, that's going to require some extra time.

"We would like to have that office open for the public to come in, so we do need somebody who can dedicate time to being at the chamber office. It's not a remote situation by any means."

French said ideal applicants should be outgoing, creative, good with social media, and willing to work with area organizations like Great Bend Economic Development.
