The Great Bend High School bowling teams were back in action Thursday at the Walnut Bowl. The Lady Panthers took 11 of the 13 Western Athletic Points available against Dodge City. In individual games, the Great Bend girls knocked down 2,237 pins compared to 1,620 for Dodge City, and 721 for Holcomb, who had just two varsity bowlers. The Dodge City boys outscored the Panthers 11-2 in WAC standings. The Red Demons finished with 2,368 pins. Holcomb knocked down 2,151 pins, and Great Bend placed third with 1,859.
The Lady Panthers finished with the three highest series on the day. Kaylin Wahlmeier finished with games of 199, 247, and 215 to lead the way with a 661 series. Zoey Mayberry was consistent with a high-game of 191 and a series of 554 for second place. Emilee Nelson completed the sweep with three games in the 170s for a 524 series. Paige Heine topped out at 171 for a 491 series in fifth place. Rionna Rodriguez bowled a 172 middle game for a 459 series, and Emery Meza finished strong with a 169 game for a 418 series. The Lady Panthers dominated Baker competition that included games of 180 and 173. Dodge City made it past 100 pins just one time.
Holcomb's Braydon Bastin had the hot hand with three games over 200, including a 215 finale, to finish with the high-series at 628. Four Dodge City bowlers, separated by just 18 pins, rounded out the top five.
Daegan Miller was the lone Panther to surpass 500 pins. His 202 to close the day pushed him to a 523 series. Brantley Vseteck opened with games of 180 and 172 but faltered in game three for a 458 series. Quinten Miller built his way to a 185 final game for a 456 series. Joshua Manning rolled a 393, Keaton Wahlmeier finished with a 372, and Kenneth Leiker had a big middle game for a 320 series.
All three schools competed in the Baker competition. Great Bend picked up two WAC points against Dodge City and beat both schools in the final game of the evening.
The Panthers return to the Walnut Bowl on Monday to host Garden City.
