In January, the Kansas Tourism Division of the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) announced a list of 21 places in Kansas to experience in 2021. The 21 locations across Kansas range from events, agritourism, history, outdoor adventure and scenery.
Great Bend Community Coordinator
Christina Hayes says Great Bend has ties to several of the spots mentioned.
"I am excited because KDWPT named 21 places in Kansas to experience and Great Bend has six of those," exclaimed Hayes.
The brochure includes the Santa Fe Trail, celebrating its 200th
anniversary, and its route through Great Bend. Cheyenne Bottoms was directly
mentioned as the largest marsh in the interior United States.
Indirectly noted
in the 21 locations were wine trails (Rosewood Winery & Wine Cellar), brewery
tours (Dry Lake Brewing), drive the byways (wetlands and wildlife national
scenic byway) and agritourism business (Heartland Farm).
Hayes added four more destinations to round out a “Top 10 Things to do in Great
Bend 2021” list. Additional attractions include the SRCA Dragstrip, Great Bend
Brit Spaugh Zoo, Wetlands Waterpark and B-29 Memorial & Great Bend Airfest.
