Message from the City of Hoisington...
The City of Hoisington appreciates everyone’s patience and understanding as we learn how to handle snow removal more effectively and efficiently. We do not get this much snow very often and every storm provides us with an opportunity to refine our approach.
Unfortunately, our staff does not have any control over natural drifts and we do not have the resources to clear driveways and entrances. However, we are working to find ways to limit disruptions/issues created by our staff. Our staff is considering options to deal with water flow/drainage issues caused by our mitigation efforts and is trying to address the various complaints/comments we received.
One of the most common complaints our staff received dealt with people that had recently cleaned out their driveways being shoveled/plowed back in. This is a phenomenon known as the “second shovel.” This weekend, our staff was made aware of a graphic explaining how to avoid the second shovel.
If you have cleaned your driveway already, the graphic suggests that you should clean out the area to the left of your driveway to avoid the snow being plowed back into your drive. Check out the photo for an illustration of this concept.
The City of Hoisington is always looking for ways to improve and we would welcome any feedback or recommendations to help us serve you better.
