Takkion Operating LLC, a logistics and transloading provider for renewable energy, will be creating a space in Great Bend.

There are currently 14.6 acres of land on the north end of the Great Bend Municipal Airport that are being leased for storage. With WATCO leasing five acres of the parcel on a month-to-month contract, the Great Bend City Council approved a lease with Takkion for 9.6 acres.

Curtis Williams, with Takkion, said the site will be used to store wind turbine components and possibly solar components.

"We would work out a mitigation plan for traffic control, making sure we do not impede any other business," said Williams. "As Takkion, we always like to come into a town and become part of the community. We want to bring revenue to your community."

Williams said there are 21 other similar Takkion storage sites around the country, including one in Garden City.

"We like to keep it local," said Williams. "That is what our agenda is...to do this and build our business here."

WATCO has expressed a desire to continue the five-acre lease until the end of the year. At that time, Takkion would like to assume those five acres in a future lease. The three-year term will charge Takkion $365 per acre, or $3,504 per month.
