The City of Great Bend offices will be closed this Friday in honor of Veterans Day, a federal holiday in the United States to remember military veterans.
While the day is always observed on Nov. 11, which is this Saturday, Great Bend City Administrator Brandon Anderson said there are plenty of local ceremonies scheduled this weekend.
"On Friday there will be a breakfast at the Great Bend High School commons," said Anderson. "That's from 8:50 a.m. to 9:25 a.m., and you can enter through the main entrance of the high school. The program will begin a 9:30 a.m."
There will also be a program Friday at 1 p.m. at Golden Belt Memorial Park. On Saturday, there will be a program at Veterans Memorial Park in Great Bend at 11 a.m.
The city will again put American flags up at Veterans Park.
On the 11th hour of the 11 day of the 11 month in 1918, World War I came to an end.
