Ellinwood, Hoisington volleyball teams headed to state

Anticipation has been riding high for high school volleyball teams in Barton County. All three teams still in contention punched their respective tickets to state Saturday by winning their substate brackets. 

Ellinwood improved to 39-3 on the season with a pair of wins on its home court. The Lady Eagles dominated Sterling 25-13, 25-11, then defeated TMP 25-23, 25-14 to advance to state for the first time since 2021. This year's Class 2A State Volleyball Championships will be held at United Wireless Arena in Dodge City.

Hoisington made quick work of its two substate opponents at the Activity Center Saturday. The Lady Cardinals will take a 37-4 record to state. Hoisington opened with a 25-16, 25-23 win against Smoky Valley, then downed Holcomb 25-18, 25-13 in the finals. The Class 3A State Volleyball Championships will be held at the Hutchinson Arena.

Great Bend defeated Goddard and Valley Center in straight sets to advance to the Class 5A state tournament in Salina.
