During this week’s meeting, the Barton County Commission approved the launch of the 2026 Local Recycling Grant Program, aimed at supporting projects that enhance recycling efforts across the county.
Jennifer Hamby, solid waste director, explained that $15,000 has been allocated within the 2026 Solid Waste budget to fund local recycling initiatives. The program is designed to encourage innovative projects that provide both economic and environmental benefits while increasing recycling opportunities for Barton County residents.
Eligible applicants include any county department, agency, organization, recycling center, city, school district, or community college located within Barton County.
To be considered, applications must demonstrate a positive impact on the community, align with the Barton County Solid Waste Management Plan, and contribute to increased recycling efforts throughout the county.
The Commission approved moving forward with the program, and applications are now being accepted.
