Just a few short days away from the open house of the new Great Bend Justice Center, Great Bend Police Chief Steve Haulmark welcomed the latest addition to his staff Monday night at the city council meeting.

Jeremiah Slattery has been with the police department the past two weeks. Haulmark said Slattery is already a certified officer spending a year working in Larned prior to coming to Great Bend.

"Slattery is in field training right now," said Haulmark. "He'll have just a little bit more of that then he'll be out and about on his own. We're excited for him and glad he's here."

Slattery will get to enjoy the new 20,100 square-foot Justice Center positioned at the intersection of 12th Street and Baker Avenue. The $9 million building will house the police station and municipal court.

The open house and ribbon cutting will take place at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 20.
