The City of Great Bend is anticipating cleaner streets next year when a
new street sweeper will arrive for the Public Works department.
The Great Bend City Council approved a 48-month, 3%-interest lease purchase
agreement with First Kansas Bank for the purchase of a street sweeper for
$281,105.49.
Public Works will be using money set aside yearly in the capital outlay to make
the annual payments on the street sweeper; thus, allowing the city to acquire
the sweeper sooner.
Public Works Director Jason Cauley said the city’s current
two sweepers have been breaking down often and this purchase will allow more of
the city to be cleaned.
"This will allow us to reach more areas," said Cauley. "This Pelican does not require a CDL. That opens up a lot more staff to operate it. Being mechanical, we're able to go into a lot more areas."
The Elgin Pelican Sweeper from Key Equipment will have a build date in
December. When building starts, it is estimated that it will be two weeks until
delivery.
