Resilient is defined as being able to withstand or recover quickly from difficult conditions. Every business and person has needed to be resilient these past few months through the COVID-19 pandemic. The City of Great Bend is again pushing through quarantines with employees which altered Monday’s Great Bend City Council meeting.

Mayor Cody Schmidt says a handful of quarantine orders were handed out to city employees a few hours prior to the meeting.

"We always rely on the Barton County Health Department to feed us the information we need and that is what they recommended," said Schmidt. "We set up Zoom and sometimes technology does not always work the way you want."

City Administrator Kendal Francis was one of those employees quarantined and joined the council via video conference Monday. The audio to Francis' connection did not work so City Clerk Shawna Schafer was forced to call Francis for his report.

"We did some different things on the agenda, pulled some items off and did the basics to get through the meeting," said Schmidt. "It was another bump in the road that we seem to get over every time."

The most recent COVID-19 update from Barton County last Friday showed positive active cases were down to 99, with 53 residing in Great Bend.
