All aboard to save the depot. On Saturday, Oct. 1, the Holyrood Booster Club returns its annual fundraiser "Pickin' at the Depot," to help raise funds to preserve the historic 1887 Santa Fe Depot. The event will feature live music, games, carriage rides, and food.
"A few years ago, a group of people from Holyrood got together and restored the depot," said Booster Club President Tanner Dahlke. "It should have been torn down, but they renovated it. Now it holds our museum, a meeting space. This is just our annual fundraiser."
The last fundraiser took place before the COVID-19 pandemic, and now the booster club is excited to get back to work. The last event drew approximately 200 people to support the restoration of the depot.
"In Holyrood, there aren't a lot of historic buildings, unique buildings," Dahlke said. "This building is on Main Street, so just maintaining what we have just makes our town unique. When people come by, they see the depot, this big yellow building, and see that it's well-maintained. It's just a highlight of our community."
Pickin' at the Depot begins at 3 p.m. on Oct. 1. Hamburger and hot dog meals will be available for a free-will donation.
