Duane Legleiter, age 60

Duane G. Legleiter (aka Butch or Tiny), 60, La Crosse, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 19, 2023, at his home.

He was born January 19, 1963, in Hays, Kansas, the son of Francis and Mary Ann (Dinkel) Legleiter. He was a lifetime resident of Rush County, Kansas, a 1981 graduate of La Crosse High School and was employed with Rush County Highway Department for 36 years, running heavy equipment, building bridges and supervising day to day operations for several years. He was a passionate farmer, helped with the Legleiter and Sons Construction Company in the 1970’s/80’s, collector of Budweiser memorabilia, and he just seemed to know a little bit about everything.

He was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church of Liebenthal, Kansas, and served on the parish council for many years.

On November 17, 1984, he married his high school sweetheart, Monica McLaughlin in La Crosse.

Survivors include, wife, Monica, La Crosse; his mother, Mary Ann Legleiter, Liebenthal; one daughter, Samantha and son-in-law, Deonte Sims, Kansas City; two grand dogs, Tori and Ace; one brother, Bob Legleiter (Sue), Hays; five sisters, Janett Copeland, Hays, Shirley Haselhorst (Art), Antonino, Lilly Binder (Ernie), Munjor, Evelyn Younker (Darold), Munjor, and Lou Amerine (Craig), Lawrence; one sister-in-law, Carol Legleiter, Hays; numerous aunts, uncles, Godchildren, nieces and nephews and extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his father, Francis Legleiter; his two brothers, Clarence Legleiter and Glenn Legleiter; mother-in-law, Beth Delaney; and grandparents, aunts, uncles, and nephew.

Visitation will be Sunday, July 23, 2023, from 5:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at the Janousek Funeral Home, La Crosse. A vigil service and rosary will be at 7:00 P.M.

Church visitation will be Monday, July 24, 2023, from 9:00 A.M. to 9:50 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal.

Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 24, 2023, at 10:00 A.M. at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, with Father Stephen Dabanka officiating. Interment will be in St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Liebenthal.

In lieu of flowers or plants, the family requests memorials to the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Liebenthal, or the donor’s choice.
