The Great Bend City Council will again consider several items in tonight’s meeting. Agenda items include approving alcohol consumption at Al Burns Memorial Field during Great Bend Bat Cat games for the months of May, June, July, and August, and a monthly report from Great Bend Economic Development Director Jason Kuilan.

Tonight’s meeting will also include a public hearing on the adoption of the STAR Bond Project Plan within the boundaries of the Great Bend Municipal Airport and 10th Street Redevelopment District at 3017 10th Street. The hearing will allow for public comment on the plan, then consideration of comments. A two-thirds majority vote from the council would then be required to adopt the plan. Adoption of the STAR Bond Project Plan is non-binding and only approves the project plan as the financing structure, which is subject to Great Bend voters in November.

The STAR Bond Project Plan is described in a general way as a major multi-sport athletic complex, and a major commercial entertainment and tourism area that will include enhancements to the SRCA Dragstrip, a dragstrip racing museum, event center, and a hotel and related entertainment, restaurant, and retail sales.

The council will also consider an application for a $2 million grant from the Land and Water Conservation Fund to be used toward the approximately $9 million project to construct a new swimming pool. The council will also consider the purchase of three large pieces of equipment and an upgrade to security cameras totaling more than $633,000.

Tonight’s Great Bend City Council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
