There are no guarantees when opening a new business. Nearly two decades ago, David Gonzales, owner of Achieve Rehab in Great Bend, opened the facility with his wife, Karla. David is set to retire on July 31, and Karla said that also means Achieve Rehab will be closing its doors for good.

"David has made a ton of friends through these last 19-20 years," she said. "Usually, when David would see a patient, sometimes it could be as long as two months he would be working on a patient with a shoulder injury or shoulder rehab, or hand rehab. Some of those injuries take quite a while to recover in rehab. David made some close relationships with patients."

David worked as an occupational therapist and certified hand therapist. Karla also helped patients as a certified occupational therapy assistant. The business specialized in rehabbing patients after hand, wrist and shoulder injuries and surgeries.

As a token of appreciation to the community, David and Karla are inviting friends and former patients to a reception on Thursday, July 31, from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at Achieve Rehab, 1410 Polk Street in Great Bend. It's their way of giving a final thanks to the community for putting its trust in their hands.
