The giving season is underway around Central Kansas. On Wednesday, the Golden Belt Community Foundation began its big annual fundraiser which will culminate with Giving Tuesday on Nov. 28. Development and Communications Coordinator Mackenzie Mitchell said the event continues to grow.
"We have 107 organizations this year, so again, more than last year," she said. "We have a couple of new ones on our giving form. Giving can happen anytime from now to the 28th, which is the big push day on Giving Tuesday. There are special incentives for giving throughout the day on that Tuesday."
The campaign, now in its 10th year, raised more than $339,000 for area non-profits in 2021, and more than $288,000 last year. All qualified charitable organizations in Barton, Pawnee, Rush, and Stafford counties are eligible to receive contributions.
"You can click one fund, you can click 10 funds, then you can tell how you want to break out your dollar for how much money goes into each fund," said Mitchell. "You can give to one organization or as many as you want. You can give online through the giving portal, you can mail a check to our office, or bring a check into our office. We are doing bank drop-off locations again this year just on the 28th."
While donations are accepted throughout November, there are additional incentives to donate on Tuesday, Nov. 28, including three $100 donations that will be awarded. The community that donates the most, per capita, will receive a $1,000 grant to support a community program or project.
