The City of Great Bend street crews started road work near the 10th
Street and Kansas Avenue intersection in the middle of April, and Assistant
City Administrator Logan Burns said this week that there is roughly a couple of weeks left on the project.
In 2017, Great Bend conducted a $6 million water main replacement project. Boring
lines underneath the street caused the surface on this portion of 10th Street to
sink.
"Crews switched to the inside, westbound lane and center lane for pouring concrete," said Burns. "They're waiting on the flowable fill to cure before they can pour the top layer."
In April, Public Works Director Jason Cauley said any time a street’s base is
disturbed and has vehicle traffic re-compacting the base, there is a chance of
the street surface sinking.
