From the Great Bend Rec
What started as a shared dream is now complete. The Great Bend Recreation Commission Foundation is proud to announce the official Grand Opening of the new Community Basketball Court on Monday, Sept. 22, at 1 p.m. The court is located across from Eisenhower School at the corner of Lakin and Garfield.
This brand-new court is more than just a place to play. It’s a safe space for kids to grow, athletes to thrive, and neighbors to come together to make memories. Along with the new court, updates include adjustable side goals on the existing court, improvements to the baseball/softball fields, and an upgraded sand volleyball pit—creating a more user friendly and welcoming park for all.
The project is the result of years of passion, persistence, and community support. From the first conversations to the final touches, every contribution—big or small—has helped turn vision into reality. Special recognition goes to the Morning and Noon Basketball members, who have long been part of Great Bend’s basketball story, as well as to USD 428 and the Kiwanis for their generous support.
“We’re deeply grateful to everyone who has believed in this project,” said Chris Umphres, Great Bend Rec Director. “This court belongs to the whole community, and we can’t wait to celebrate together on opening day.”
The Great Bend Recreation Commission Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, remains dedicated to providing leisure, cultural, sports, fitness, and educational programs that improve quality of life and build community.
Join us on Sept. 22 at 1 p.m. for the ribbon cutting, first shots, and community celebration of this long-awaited project. The court is located across from Eisenhower School at the corner of Lakin and Garfield.
