The annual Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area Information Night will take place Thursday, Aug. 20 at the Kansas Wetlands Education Center on K-156 Highway, northeast of Great Bend. Starting at 7 p.m., wildlife area staff will provide information about current conditions, planned management actions and the fall flight forecast for waterfowl.

“It's a great chance for people to ask specific questions,” said Jason Wagner, Wildlife Manager at Cheyenne Bottoms . "It gives our local people more insight into what we have been doing out here over the past year.”

Wagner says it has been a good summer at the bottoms other than the fact that some projects were delayed due to COVID-19. He says some of those projects are ready to get underway.

“We are using some of our grant money we were awarded and utilizing those funds to award contracts that are actually starting which is pretty exciting,” Wagner said. “While some of the projects are just starting, we're finalizing plans for the money that is still left from the grant funds.”

The meeting is free and open to the public. Those attending are asked to social distance and bring masks just in case the event needs to be moved inside due to weather. Wagner says it might be a good idea to bring bug spray along as well.
