The Great Bend City Council gave property owner Tom Pearson until Oct. 20 to make repairs to the house at 2521 12th Street. An investigation was conducted from the public right-of-way by Great Bend Building Official Matt Schafer where several deficiencies were identified.

City Administrator Logan Burns said the city’s main focus is to board up the broken windows on the dangerous structure.

"Two windows on the west side still have remnants of broken glass hanging in the window frames," said Burns. "Due to the condition of the windows, this property is not secure from entry, creating a hazard to the public and any curious passerby. The roof has sections of asphalt shingles that are missing, exposing the structure to the elements."

Burns added progress is being made by the owner to repair the structure, but the house is not up to code yet.

"Matt was able to confirm that the house currently has no utilities, which would create an unsanitary condition," Burns added.

The city council passed a resolution to give Pearson until Oct. 20 to remedy the issues or the city will be authorized to repair or destroy the house.
