Six local Pitch Hit and Run winners have qualified for the Kansas City Royals regional competition to be held in Kansas City.
On June 30th, the Great Bend Optimist Club and the Great Bend Recreation commission hosted the local Pitch Hit and Run contest. Over 80 Boys and Girls participated in the contest which focuses on the basic baseball skills of pitching, hitting and running. While local champions were crowned, the winner had to wait and see if they qualified for the next level hosted by the Kansas City Royals.
Assistant Sports Supervisor at the REC, Aaron Clark said “it’s common for two or three of our local winners to have a strong enough score to be invited to Kansas City. But this year, six of the 8 division champions advanced.”
On the baseball side, all for winners advanced to KC, including 7&8 year old Jayven Rosas, 8&9yr Kohan Honomichl, 10&11yr Connor Schwamborn, and 13/14 champ Benson Shepard. Plus two of the Softball Girls local winners, 7&8 yr. Isabela Ramirez and 13/14 Brynlee Snook qualified for Kansas City.
Clark congratulated all the participants saying, “It’s great to see Pitch Hit & Run grow over the past few years. And I’m really proud to see so many of our athletes advance to Kansas City.” The Regional competition will be held this Saturday, August 8th at Kauffman Stadium.
