The Golden Belt Community Concert Association will present Live from Laurel Canyon at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 23, at the Great Bend Municipal Auditorium, Lakin and Stone. This group shares the music and stories of folk rock from the era of the ’60s to ’70s when some of the most influential songwriters were creating a new sound in the hills of Los Angeles.
Laurel Canyon sits in the hills above Los Angeles and was a community of artists who created a new genre of music – Folk Rock – which forever changed the look, sound, and attitude of American pop music. Live From Laurel Canyon celebrates The Mamas and The Papas, The Byrds, Buffalo Springfield, Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young, James Taylor, Carole King, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Linda Ronstadt, The Eagles, and America.
These fresh versions of iconic songs, coupled with the stories that inspired the artists and the music, create an insightful, beautiful, humorous, and memorable evening.
GBCCA concerts are open to association members. No single tickets are available. Because the association encourages young people’s interest in music and the performing arts, full-time students are admitted to the concerts for a $5 donation at the door.
The Golden Belt Community Concert Association and the Great Bend Recreation Commission provide eight handicap parking spaces in front of the northeast entrance of the auditorium for every concert.
Live From Laurel Canyon is the last concert of this season. The GBCCA membership campaign is now under way for the 2026-2027 season and the association will be accepting membership renewals at this concert. The association will continue receiving renewals and new members through May 8. Memberships can be purchased online at www.goldenbeltcca.org or by regular mail with checks sent to GBCCA, P.O. Box 1795, Great Bend, KS 67530.
