The second Saturday in August is always booked for Great Bend's final summer bash, Party in the Park. A staple during the day-long festival at Veterans Memorial Park is the mud volleyball tournament.
With the addition of the splash pad this spring, the mud volleyball tournament is being moved to the Great Bend Fairgrounds (Great Bend Expo Complex grounds), west of town. Great Bend Community Coordinator Christina Hayes said the north side of Vets Park will now fill up with new events.
"We're going to be adding a significant number of vendors to that area where mud volleyball was," said Hayes. "The Police Department will be having their dunk tank. We're adding Midwest Elite Wrestling Exhibition. They're actually bringing a ring to do some wrestling. The car show will add some extra entertainment as well."
Great Bend City Administrator Brandon Anderson said staff is working with the Fair Board to keep the mud pits permanent to host a tournament during the Barton County Fair in the future.
Party in the Park is Aug. 10 with musical acts from The Taylor Fugitt Band, Poison Overdose Tribute Band and The Heathens. Find more about Party in the Park at the Explore Great Bend Facebook page.
