LONDON (AP) — A 90-yard kickoff return for a touchdown was nullified and two players were ejected. It was quite a start to the game between the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles at London's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Jaguars rookie Josh Cameron returned the opening kickoff 90 yards for a would-be touchdown that was called back because of offsetting penalties including a hold by Jacksonville’s Branson Combs. Meanwhile, there was a scrum at midfield with pushing and shoving on both sides. When the dust settled, Jacksonville’s Bryan Thomas Jr. and Philadelphia’s Jeremiah Trotter Jr. were ejected. And the teams did the kickoff all over again.
CLEVELAND (AP) — Gavin Williams had 12 of a record 21 strikeouts by Cleveland pitchers, José Ramírez homered on a pitch just above home plate and the Guardians beat the Chicago White Sox 2-0 to complete a comeback from an 0-2 deficit in their best-of-five AL Division Series. Cle6veland opens the AL Championship Series at Tampa Bay on Monday night, seeking its first World Series trip since 2016. The Guardians/Indians franchise hasn’t won the title since 1948, the longest drought among MLB teams. Guardians pitchers set a record for strikeouts in a nine-inning postseason game. The White Sox got just three hits, put only nine balls in play and struck out 75 times over the series.
Georgia has taken a big step toward the Southeastern Conference championship game by defeating Alabama 20-17. The Bulldogs' defense sacked Alabama's quarterback four times and held him to a season-low in passing yards. This victory could boost Georgia to No. 1 in the AP Top 25 rankings. Meanwhile, Oklahoma upset top-ranked Texas 27-24, giving coach Brent Venables a much-needed win. South Carolina also pulled off an upset, defeating Florida 38-19, easing pressure on coach Shane Beamer. In other games, Kentucky edged LSU 35-34, UCLA remained undefeated with a win over Oregon, and Indiana narrowly beat Nebraska to stay unbeaten.
SINGAPORE (AP) — Max Verstappen raced hard into the first corner then cruised to back-to-back Formula 1 wins at the Singapore Grand Prix. Verstappen had been concerned about his Red Bull car’s “horrendous” starts and was slow off the line again, but managed to squeeze Charles Leclerc to the inside heading into the first corner and held the lead. Leclerc was second as Verstappen followed up on his first victory of the season in Malaysia last week and sprint race win Saturday. Kimi Antonelli overtook Lando Norris and Lewis Hamilton for third to increase his standings lead.
SHANGHAI (AP) — Top-seeded Alexander Zverev let two match points slip in the second-set tiebreaker before winning 6-4, 6-7 (8), 6-3 against Quentin Halys at the ATP 1000 Shanghai Masters. The U.S. Open champion never gave up a break-point chance in the third-round match. U.S. Open beaten finalist Ben Shelton is out after losing 7-6 (5), 7-6 (3) to 21-year-old Frenchman Arthur Gea on Sunday. Shelton, who won his first match in Shanghai on his 24th birthday, faced three match points at 6-3 in the second-set tiebreaker. Gea converted on his first.
STOCKHOLM, Sweden (AP) — One of the wildest second halves of a game in soccer history hardly seemed likely with the score 0-0 at halftime between two midtable teams in the Swedish league. When it was all over Saturday in Stockholm after an 11-goal half, Brommapojkarna won 6-5 at AIK, having blown a 5-1 lead and then sealing victory with the last kick. Mads Hansen scored the decisive goal in the ninth minute of stoppage time, just 90 seconds after AIK thought they had earned an unlikely point. Borussia Dortmund once scored 10 second-half goals in a Bundesliga game won 11-1 against Arminia Bielefeld in November 1982.
MILWAUKEE (AP) — All along, Christian Yelich felt this was going to be part of the road for the Milwaukee Brewers. It was always going to be the Los Angeles Dodgers — with their consecutive World Series titles and a payroll that casts a long shadow over Yelich and the small-market Brewers. The 2026 NL Championship Series is a sequel, with Shohei Ohtani and the Dodgers taking on Jackson Chourio and the Brewers. Los Angeles swept Milwaukee in last year’s NLCS on the way to the championship. Game 1 is Sunday night in Milwaukee. Yelich says he always felt the Brewers would be facing the Dodgers in the NLCS again this year.
LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) — Kentucky quarterback Kenneth Minchey ran untouched for a 2-point conversion, lifting his team to a 35-34 overtime victory over No. 10 LSU. LSU scored first in overtime in Saturday's game with a 15-yard run by quarterback Sam Leavitt. Kentucky forced overtime with a 33-yard field goal by Adam Zouagui, who had missed two earlier attempts. Minchey threw for 246 yards, with 206 in the second half. C.J. Baxter ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns. LSU's defense, which had been strong so far this season, gave up 401 yards. Leavitt was 25-of-34 passing for 275 yards and two touchdowns, but also had an interception and the fumble.
EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — Wayne Knight rushed for a touchdown and caught another score, and No. 21 UCLA overcame an injury to starting quarterback Nico Iamaleava to down No. 13 Oregon 17-15. Knight ran for 103 yards on 22 carries and caught three passes for 12 yards, including a fourth-quarter, 9-yard touchdown reception from backup Ty Dieffenbach for the undefeated Bruins. The sloppy game featured 10 turnovers, including seven for the Ducks (3-2, 1-1), who saw their chances for a spot in the College Football Playoff fade with a second loss.
WASHINGTON (AP) — Patri Guijarro and Eva Navarro scored in the first 14 minutes and Adriana Nanclares stopped a second-half penalty kick to lift Spain to a 2-0 victory over the United States in a clash between the two top-ranked teams in women’s international soccer. It was the first of two meetings between reigning World Cup champion Spain and the reigning Olympic champion U.S. The two teams have also combined to win the last three World Cups. They’ll play again Tuesday night near Philadelphia
