The Barton Community College women's cross country team competed in its second meet of the season on Friday morning participating at the FHSU Tiger Open held at the Rolling Ridge Course in Hays, Kansas.
Fielding just two runners and unable to compete as a team, freshman Lakota Schultz paced the two-pack of Cougars conducting the 25th fastest stoppage of 21:25.6 in the 36 entrée 5K race.
Lainie Sleichter concluded the Barton participants maneuvering around the 5K course in 26:21.9 finishing 34th quickest.
Claiming the team title was host Fort Hays State University with a score of 17 points edging out Jayhawk Conference foes Garden City Community College's runner-up 59 points and Dodge City Community College's third best 64 point total.
Defending her individual title from a season ago, Jaycee Vath of Fort Hays State University paced the field in 18:17.0, edging out teammates Emma Weiner's runner-up time 18:19.7 and Taylor Hoskinson's third quickest 18:33.8.
Barton will have some time off before their next meet coming in a tune-up at the Tiger Preview held October 12th at the Kansas Veterans Home in Arkansas City, Kansas before returning two-weeks later for the KJCCC/Region VI Championships.
