GODDARD — The Great Bend Bat Cats have advanced to the quarterfinals of the Summerball Showdown in Goddard with a 4-3 victory over the Kansas Curve Friday night.
The Bat Cats (32-12) scored 2-runs in both the seventh and eighth innings to take a 4-1 lead, then held on in the ninth as the Curve scored 2-runs to make the final 4-3.
David Stuart led the way on the mound for Great Bend, hurling seven innings while allowing only a second inning home run. Stuart retired 18 of the last 19 Curve hitters he faced.
Connor Scott hit a 2-run homer in the eighth that extended the lead to 4-1 and gave the Bat Cats the cushion they needed to hang on in the ninth.
Great Bend will play the Omaha Corn Belt Saturday night at 7 p.m. at the at the Genesis Sports Complex. If they win, the Bat Cats would advance to Sunday afternoon’s semi-finals with a chance to advance to the championship game on Sunday night.
