Through the quality-of-life sales tax, dog park fencing at Veterans Memorial Park in Great Bend was a project slated for 2023. This would separate large dogs and small dogs, as the city has experienced dog fights and altercations between citizens.
Great Bend Assistant City Administrator Logan Burns said the additional fencing will not expand the dog park; instead, the project will divide the existing footprint into two sections.
"Right when you walk in, we'd look to put a gate and another slab," said Burns. "Lastly, the project will split the dog water and go between the pavilion so there's shade on both sides."
The Great Bend City Council approved the $8,900 proposal from Eldridge Fencing for the installation of 384' of 4'-chain-link fencing. The slab of concrete added and modification to the watering station will put the project at $10,000.
