On Wednesday, Jan. 4 at approximately 10:30 a.m., the
Hoisington Police Department was notified by a subject about a hand grenade.
The grenade was located in a garage in the 500 block of East 1st
Street in Hoisington. The subject advised law enforcement he was cleaning out the
garage and located the grenade.
When officer arrived, it was confirmed the hand grenade was live with the pin
still in it.
The McConnell Air Force Base EOD Team in Wichita was contacted and collected
the grenade, which was then transported to the City of Hoisington compost site
where it was properly destroyed.
The Hoisington Police Department was also assisted by the Hoisington Fire
Department, EMS and the Public Works department.
