Twenty-one athletic teams within Barton Community College were recognized recently by the NJCAA in announcing its 2021-22 Academic Teams of the Year achievements.
Earning a cumulative 3.308 GPA across Barton's twenty-two athletic teams reporting to the NJCAA list, seventeen placed among their respective sport's Top-20 leaderboard as 1,061 NJCAA teams achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.
Three Barton squads earned the NJCAA Academic Team of the Year honor led by Head Coach Alan Segal's volleyball team winning their third straight title. The Cougars accumulated a 3.95 GPA to also sit atop all NJCAA teams' academic performance for the second straight season. Individually, each of the fifteen Cougar roster earned NJCAA All-Academic honors with twelve having a perfect 4.0 GPA classroom performance.
Tied with Monroe college (NY) for the most academic team titles for the 2021-22 academic year, Barton's other two best of the classroom also came from a women's squad.
Coming off a third straight season of reaching the Region VI title game, off the court Head Coach Alan Clark's women's basketball team had seven 4.0 GPA earners to hele compiled a team 3.79 GPA to lead the nation while Head Coach Lyle Stickney's women's tennis team had four NJCAA All-America academic earners leading to an accumulated 3.76 GPA to follow their 10th placing at the national championships.
In addition to the trio of national titles, Barton also had a pair of national academic runner-up teams as men's soccer accumulated a 3.58 GPA as women's swimming compiled a 3.41 GPA.
Amongst fellow KJCCC (Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference) members, Barton added conference academic titles in women's cross country and men's golf on top of, the three national title achieving teams.
