Central Kansas Community Corrections recently received a Kansas Department of Corrections Behavior Grant to be used to assist felony probationers in building healthy life skills. CKCC Director Amy Boxberger asked the Barton County Commission Tuesday morning for approval to move forward with the grant totaling $15,000.

"We selected the Family Peace Initiative as an alternative to incarceration," she said. "It's designed to improve outcomes for probationers with risk areas in antisocial attitudes, antisocial personality, antisocial companions, or a history of antisocial behaviors as identified by our KDOC-approved risk tool."

CKCC opened bids on July 6 and received one bid from Stepping Stones to Recovery before the deadline on July 10. CKCC will provide all the materials for the courses, which are expected to accommodate around 75 clients. The classes will meet twice a week for 50 weeks, concluding in June 2024. The course will be gender-specific with men and women sessions lasting approximately 90 minutes twice a week.
