The Barton Community College men's bowling team got off to a strong start Wednesday in the season opener as the Cougars placed a pair inside the top 10 while conducting a fourth place team finish at the Kansas Wesleyan University Invite.
Fielding a varsity and junior varsity team, the teams competed in a three-game series of individual games concluded with nine baker games.
Barton's varsity squad accrued 4785 pins falling 49 back of third place KWU JV and 295 back of the Coyotes varsity squad while Bake University claimed the top spot with a final tally 5198 pins.
Campbell Peterson with his third place trophyMaking his collegiate debut, Campbell Peterson paced the Cougar squad throughout the 46 competitor field amassing the third most pins of 629. The hometown product of Salina raced out to a sizzling start destroying 217 and 216 in his opening two games before closing with a final round of 196, for a 10-frame average score 210.
Tossing on Barton's second entered team, sophomore Khalil Sanchez rounded out the final top-10 finishers for the Cougars tallying the eighth most pin destruction of 577 with games of 183, 181 and 213 to lead the junior varsity team.
Carter Lambeth was Barton's other lone varsity top-20 finisher rolling the 15th highest three game total 543 while Alex Wheat was the other lone Cougar to fall inside the top-20 settling for 18th with 522 pins toward the junior varsity's team total.
