For the second consecutive week, Barton men's soccer standout Rafael Calmon has been named the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference Division I Offensive Player of the Week following another explosive offensive performance.
Coming off last week's sweep of the KJCCC and NJCAA Division I national offensive honors, Calmon continued his torrid scoring pace with three goals and one assist for seven points across just 120 minutes of action. The sophomore found the back of the net in both contests, helping the No. 4 Cougars collect a pair of conference victories while outscoring their opponents 9-1.
Calmon opened the week by extending Barton's lead to 3-1 midway through the second half of Wednesday's victory over Dodge City before delivering a five-point performance in Saturday's 6-0 shutout of Seward County.
Against the Saints, Calmon accounted for five points in a span of less than 12 minutes, netting the eventual game-winner just 11:37 into the contest, assisting on Barton's second goal five minutes later, then adding his second tally of the afternoon to help fuel a 4-0 advantage in the opening 23 minutes.
The latest performances give Calmon six goals and two assists for 14 points over his last four matches, moving him into a tie for 13th on Barton's all-time career goals list with 21. The sophomore sits just three goals shy of joining the program's top 10.
Calmon's selection marks Barton's seventh KJCCC weekly honor of the season, joining Pedro Lisboa's four Goalkeeper of the Week awards (Weeks 1, 2, 5 and 8) and Shun Imai's Offensive Player of the Week recognition in Week 6.
Barton returns to action Wednesday in a nonconference contest, hosting Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College for a 1:00 p.m. kickoff at the Cougar Soccer Complex. The Cougars then remain on home turf to close out the regular season, beginning Saturday against No. 5 Cowley College at 1:00 p.m. before Monday's nonconference matchup with Sterling College's junior varsity squad at 3:00 p.m.
