Panther bowlers see WAC teams at home, at Garden City

It's been a busy start to the week for the Great Bend High School bowling teams. The Panthers hosted Hays Monday at the Walnut Bowl, then traveled to Garden City on Tuesday.

The Lady Panthers outscored Hays 12-1 in WAC scoring Monday. Zoey Mayberry took her turn leading the squad with a high-series 584 that includes games of 183, 190, and 211. Kaylin Wahlmeier finished second overall with a 532 series and a 189 middle game. Emilee Nelson finished strong with a 203 to finish third overall with a 507 series. Hays' Abbey Boyer placed fourth with a 442 series, just beating Great Bend's Paige Heine by five pins. Heine rebounded from a 103 middle game for a 178 in her final game. Rionna Rodriguez shot a 384 for the Panthers, and Kyra Calvert rolled a 322. The Lady Panthers faltered in game three of Baker competition, losing 122-121 for the lone Hays point on the day.

Hays dominated action on the boys' side with all 13 WAC standings points and the top-five series. Keaton Brown led that charge with a 201 final game for a 534 series. The top-five Hays boys all reached 500 pins. Joshua Manning rolled a 172 final game to placed seventh overall with a 434 series. Kenneth Leiker finished with a 159 game for a 365 series, and  Alexis Ayala and Cameron Beckwith went back and forth to finish at 329 and 326, respectively. Keaton Wahlmeier rolled a 314, and Kayden Detrick finished at 277. The Panther boys missed the first two Baker points by a total of five pins.

Tuesday, the Lady Panthers finished at 2,109 pins compared to Garden City's 1,965 pins. The teams split the four Baker games and the Buffs won the Baker total 668-615. Wahlmeier and Garden City's Kyleigh Whitehurst went toe-to-toe in individual games. Wahlmeier had games of 221, 183, and 192 to beat Whitehurst 596-551. Nelson rolled a 198 in her final game for third overall with a 513 series. Mayberry topped out at 183 pins in her first game to place fourth with a 494 series. Heine finished strong with games of 165 and 180 to finish sixth with a 469 series. Emery Meza opened with a 161 game and finished with a 381 series, and Rodriguez was consistent all day for a 358.

The Panther boys took one of the three Baker games against the Buffs but lost the overall tally 797-595. Garden City had the top five series, led by Bo Roth's 748. Roth rolled games of 238, 276, and 234. Karsten Nichols finished with a 708 for the Buffaloes. Brantley Vsetecka opened with a 217 and finished sixth overall for the Panthers with a 517 series. Daegan Miller peaked at 184 for a 492 series. Manning opened big with games of 190 and 168 for a 482 series. Quinten Miller shot a 411, Wahlmeier finished with a 360, and Leiker rolled a 299 series. 

The Panther bowlers return to the Walnut Bowl Thursday for action against Dodge City and Holcomb.
