The City of Russell has an annual contract with a company for maintenance on the town’s water tower. The contract includes sandblasting and the occasional painting.

Russell Assistant City Manager Kayla Schneider said work is underway to repaint the south water tower with a new design.

"It'll be neat because they have to tarp the tower, because of regulations with sandblasting and paint," said Schneider. "It protects people beneath the tower. They'll get painting and reveal the new design."

Russell held a design contest for the south water tower last summer where city staff reviewed submissions and received approval on the winner by the city council. The winner also received $250 in Russell Chamber Bucks.

"This will look completely different," said Schneider. "It'll be white with a new design."

Schneider said the new-look water tower should be revealed in a few weeks.
