The University of Kansas Health System’s Great Bend campus has received a new landlord for its building on Cleveland Street. While KU Med owns the operations of the hospital, Livingston Street Capital sold the nearly 64,000 square-foot building for $39.9 million.
Randy Cason, Regional Vice President
of Greater Kansas for KU Med, said the recent change in ownership of the building
will not affect operations or service at the Great Bend hospital at all.
"We want to continue to pour into this facility in Great Bend," said Cason. "We've invested millions of dollars into technology. Nothing changes in terms of our presence. In fact, we're investing even more over the next 12 to 24 months into the facility and to healthcare within the region."
The hospital was completed in 2000, with most recent renovations in 2012.
Cason pointed out The University of Kansas Health System is a long-term tenant at the Great Bend hospital and plan to invest more into their service.
While KU Med owns the St.
Rose Pavilion facility on Broadway Avenue, Cason said it makes sense to lease
the larger hospital.
"The decision was made to enter into a long-term lease, because we could take those funds and assets and reinvest it into many other areas," said Cason. "We felt it was a much more viable decision to lease rather than buy the real estate and buildings."
In August 2018, Great Bend Regional Hospital joined the The University of
Kansas Health System.
