The National Weather Service in Wichita has issued a Heat Advisory for a large portion of central, south-central, and southeast Kansas, including Great Bend, Wichita, Hutchinson, Salina, Parsons, and surrounding communities.

The advisory is in effect from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. today (Friday, Aug. 15), with heat index values expected to reach up to 105 degrees.

Forecasters warn that hot temperatures combined with high humidity could lead to heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to drink plenty of water, stay in air-conditioned spaces, avoid prolonged time outdoors, and check on relatives and neighbors—especially the elderly or those without cooling options.
