Great Bend police arrest suspect in burglary, theft of firearm

Last Friday, March 6, shortly after 8 a.m., officers with the Great Bend Police Department were alerted to a burglary in progress in the 1100 block of Hubbard Street. The reporting party advised that a female that he did not know had entered his residence and took several items, including a firearm.

Officers began to search for the suspect with the description provided by the reporting party. A short time later, an officer with the Great Bend Police Department located the suspect in the 1100 block of Holland Street in the alley way. Officers gave several commands to the suspect, who failed to comply. K9 Niko was deployed to subdue the suspect. After a successful apprehension, officers located the stolen firearm and several other stolen items.

Officers arrested Crystal Caruthers, 41, for Aggravated Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Criminal Possession of a Firearm, and Felony Interference with Law Enforcement. Caruthers was treated for her minor injuries by the Great Bend Fire Department Emergency Medical Services. Caruthers was transported to the Barton County Jail where she was booked and held in lieu of bond.
