Great Bend - The Great Bend Braves 16U snatched the lead late in the game in a 6-3 victory over Chanute Jr Legion late Tuesday night to advance to Wednesday night's Championship game at the Great Bend Sports Complex. The Braves beat El Dorado 6-5 in their first game Tuesday.
The late game was tied at three with Great Bend Braves 16U batting in the top of the fifth when Trey Milsap singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
In the first inning, Chanute Jr Legion got their offense started when Brady Alonzo singled on a 3-2 count, scoring two runs.
Austin Gilbert was on the mound for Great Bend Braves 16U. The hurler surrendered three runs on three hits over four innings, striking out six.
Talan Haynes started the game for Chanute Jr Legion. Haynes lasted five innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while striking out five. Jase Tarter threw two innings out of the bullpen.
Great Bend Braves 16U scattered eight hits in the game. Milsap and Gilbert each collected multiple hits for Great Bend Braves 16U. Gilbert and Milsap each collected two hits to lead Great Bend Braves 16U.
The two teams play tonight at 7pm for the Zone Championship and the right to join state host El Dorado at the state tournament next week.
