From the Chamber
The continued growth of Central National Bank in Great Bend represents more than the opening of a new banking location—it reflects a long-term investment in the people, businesses, and future of Barton County.
The Great Bend Chamber of Commerce recently welcomed community members to celebrate Central National Bank's expanded presence at its new full-service location, 725 McKinley Street. While the event marked a new chapter for the bank, the story centered on steadily increasing investment in the Great Bend community and a commitment to helping local families and businesses succeed.
When Central National Bank first established a presence in Great Bend approximately 12 years ago, the team focused primarily on agricultural and commercial lending. Over time, as relationships grew and the community's needs evolved, so did the bank's services. Today, the Great Bend branch offers comprehensive personal and business banking, commercial and agricultural lending, mortgages, consumer loans, and Trust & Wealth Management services—all supported by local employees who know their customers by name.
"We wanted the community to know we're here to serve every stage of life," said Regional Lending Manager Chad Steffan during the celebration. "Whether it's buying a first home, financing a business, planning for retirement, or growing a farm, we want our customers to know they'll be working with people right here in Great Bend."
That commitment to local service extends beyond banking. During the event, Central National Bank announced a $50,000 contribution toward the Great Bend Recreation Commission's golf course expansion project—an investment designed to strengthen community amenities and improve quality of life for residents and visitors alike.
Founded in 1884 in Junction City, Kansas, Central National Bank has grown to serve 29 locations in 22 communities while maintaining its mission of strengthening local communities through employee involvement, corporate citizenship, and technological innovation. Despite its regional footprint, bank leaders emphasized that customer service remains local, with decisions and conversations happening close to home rather than through distant call centers.
The bank also highlighted expanded convenience for customers through its McKinley location and Walmart branch, offering extended hours and multiple access points for personal and business banking.
Central National Bank's continued investment aligns closely with the Great Bend Chamber of Commerce's Elevate GBK: Beyond Today strategic plan, particularly its focus on Business & Community Marketing and Business & People Retention. Strong financial institutions play a vital role in helping entrepreneurs launch businesses, enabling employers to expand, supporting homeownership, and creating the confidence needed for communities to grow.
"Community growth happens when organizations choose to invest not only in buildings, but in relationships," said Great Bend Chamber President & CEO Megan Barfield. "Central National Bank's continued expansion demonstrates confidence in Great Bend's future and reinforces the kind of collaborative investment that helps our entire region thrive."
As Great Bend continues building momentum, investments like Central National Bank's serve as a reminder that community success is created through long-term partnerships, local leadership, and a shared commitment to moving the region forward together.
