A first half goal was all the Barton Community College women's soccer team needed Wednesday evening in Garden City as the Cougars picked up a 1-0 victory over Garden City Community College at Broncbuster Stadium.
Posting their fifth clean sheet of the year and sweeping the season series, Barton improves to 6-4-1 in conference play and 10-6-2 on the year while the Broncbusters slide to 2-7-2 in league play and 7-7-3 overall.
The Cougars will close out the regular season on Saturday with a trip to Seward County Community College in a 2:00 p.m. kickoff from Liberal's Redskin Field before opening postseason play next Sunday in the first round of the Region 6/Plains District Tournament.
Beatriz Baldi registered the game winner for Barton with her eighth of the season coming just 28:29 into the contest, converting a 1v1 attempt after chasing down Orlane Guillou's header placed behind the Broncbusters backline for her team leading sixth assist created off Garden City's Leydaly Enriquez goal kick.
Notching her second straight shutout, Mio Tanaka improved to 10-6-2 in net benefitting behind a stout backline that allowed just one shot on frame.
