With the Great Bend Wetlands Waterpark closing for the 2024 season this past weekend, it is time to turn the pool over to the dogs. For years, the city pool has offered “Bark at the Waterpark” once the pool season finishes.

Great Bend Recreation Commission Aquatics Director Megan Hammeke said for $5 per dog, your pup can enjoy a swim in the pool this Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

"We drop the chlorine so it's safe for the dogs to be in the pool," said Hammeke. "If any humans are getting in with their dogs that they don't go past their waist. It's not a swimming time for anybody but pups. Keep your head above the water."

Last year, more than 100 dogs made use of the “Bark at the Waterpark” time. Pet owners will sign a registration form once entering, and the dogs are free to run around without a leash.

Proceeds from the event will benefit the Great Bend dog park with dog waste bags.
