The 2nd Annual Cast with a Cop will take place Friday, Aug. 18, at Veterans Lake in Great Bend. Children between the ages of 8-14 years old can fish with their local law enforcement.
Police Chief Steve Haulmark said the Great Bend Police Department teamed up
with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks for a successful event.
"KDWP donated the equipment," said Haulmark. "We just put out the word. Between police officers who knew people and families, it turned out to be a really big success. We had a great turnout and had a lot of fun."
Fishing poles, bait and tackle will be provided but participants are welcome to
bring their own. The event, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., will be held on the south
side of Veterans Lake.
"They don't need to bring any supplies," said Haulmark. "There's actually going to be a little tacklebox that we send home with them at the end of the day. We also feed them lunch. It's a good day of hanging out and interacting with the kids."
With only 30 spots available, registration is required for Friday’s free event
by filling out a form at the police station on Williams Street.
