Halloween has barely passed and already city of Great Bend crews are prepping for the upcoming Christmas holiday season. Staff decorated Main Street earlier this week, and the Trail of Lights will soon add to the Christmas spirit. The city is currently seeking volunteers to work the booth at Brit Spaugh Park.
“Volunteers just need to have cheerful spirit,” said Great Bend Public Information Director Addi Crites. “We provide candy canes and greeter bags for the volunteers to hand out and ask them to track vehicles by license plates as best as possible. We use this data and present at council, showing the usage and tourism draw it brings. The Parks Department is in charge of setting up and ordering all the lights for our Trail of Lights, so this data helps them out, too.”
The Trail of Lights includes the Twelve Days of Christmas at Veterans Park, Wild Lights at Brit Spaugh Park, and Lafayette Lights at Jack Kilby Square. So far, volunteers have signed up for 11 of the 23 dates requested by the city.
“We prefer a minimum of two people work during our shifts, which run from 6-8 p.m., with at one of them being 18 years of age,” Crites said. “But we encourage any and all volunteers and group sizes.”
Available dates remaining include Dec. 2, Dec. 6-9, Dec. 11, Dec. 13-16, Dec. 18, and Dec. 20. Anyone with questions or interest in volunteering can call (620) 793-4111, or email [email protected].
