Takkion Operating, a logistics and transloading provider for renewable energy, will be expanding their working space in Great Bend.

In July, Takkion was approved for a lease of 9.6 acres at the Great Bend Municipal Airport to store wind turbine and possibly solar components. The understanding at the time was once WATCO’s lease expired at the end of the year, Takkion would assume their additional five acres.

Great Bend City Administrator Logan Burns said WATCO expressed an interest to get out of the lease sooner, allowing Takkion to acquire the extra five acres.

"WATCO and Takkion, they either have a similar customer or the same customer," said Burns. "It sounds like they want to bring in more components and needed the additional acreage for it."

The Great Bend City Council approved the new lease agreement with Takkion which includes a $365 per acre price, or $3,504 per month.

There are 21 other similar Takkion storage sites around the country, including one in Garden City.
