At the July budget work session, City Administrator Kendal Francis reported the city was expecting a double-digit increase in their 2023 premiums.
The city has been presented with an approximately 28% increase from Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) due to high utilization.
The city budgeted for a 7% increase to health insurance premiums to minimize the burden to employees.
The city stated their reserve funds are strong, but this will most likely impact them and will force a significantly larger contribution in 2024.
Human Resources Director Randy Keasling will present the item to the Great Bend City Council at the Monday, Sept. 19 meeting. The council will be asked for a motion to approve the 2023 BCBS rates.
The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
