
The Barton Community College men's track and field team added five more national qualifiers to its list competing this past weekend in Lubbock at the Masked Rider Open hosted by Texas Tech University
The 5th ranked Cougars posted twelve personal or season bests, highlighted by the pair of golds earned by the relay teams, along with Shakwon Coke taking the long jump title.
The 4x100m tandem of Marcus Purcell, Caleb Boger, Daylin Williams, and Almond Small got Barton's Saturday's track events off to a good start with a season best 40.03 in beating out four teams.
Boger and Small were joined by Telron Bradford Jr., and Elijah Mosley in the day's final 4x400m relay event, beating out six other teams with a time of 3:047.47 to set a new season best.
Coke, along with Anthony Woods, competed in the long jump for the first time of the season in punching their entries for nationals as Coke won the event with a 7.83m jump while Woods placed 5th with a 7.23m mark.
Other national qualifying performances include Small first time outdoors in the 100m to take 5th in 10.37, Boger's 100m season best 10.47 in placing 8th, D. Williams' 9th place 21.27 200m time in his first outdoor try, Bradford in 10th on a personal best 21.29 clocking, and Giovanni Gutierrez adding the discus throw to his national trip placing 9th on a season best 48.04m throw.
