A space is only good if you can use it. Juvenile Services acquired space at the Barton County Annex, 1800 12th Street in Great Bend, several years ago. Tuesday morning, Director Marissa Woodmansee gained the Barton County Commission's approval to move forward with a new heating and air conditioning system for the space.

"Juvenile Services has had that space on the south side of the building for the last three years," Woodmansee said. "That last three years we've been without, I would say, sufficient heating and air. It's a great use of space but in the summertime, it's really, really hot, and in the wintertime, it's really, really cool. Even a meeting (Monday) with our state professionals at the Kansas Department of Corrections, it was brisk."

Commission Chair Shawn Hutchinson said it made sense to control the temperature in a room that is otherwise unusable in the middle of the summer and winter. Rube's Inc and P&S Electric will complete the installation for a total price of $8,155.
