Sara Aguirre's second-half strike propelled the Barton Community College women's soccer team to a 1-0 road victory Wednesday afternoon over Coffeyville Community College from the Veterans Memorial Stadium.
The victory moves the Cougars back into fourth in the league standings with 19 points at 6-6-1 and 10-7-1 overall, while Coffeyville drops to 1-11-1 in conference play and 2-14-2 overall. Next up for Barton is Saturday's 1:00 p.m. conference finale hosting No. 19 Hutchinson Community College at Cavanaugh Field, before concluding the regular season Sunday on the road against the junior varsity of Kansas Wesleyan University.
After a scoreless opening half, Aguirre wasted little time breaking through just 4:48 into the second half, lacing a 20-yard near-post strike for her team leading 11th goal of the year off Katie Potter's team-tying seventh assist.
Barton's defense held firm over the final 40 minutes to complete the season sweep of the Red Ravens and post the team's fourth shutout, including its third clean sheet over the past four matches.
