Great Bend City Council to vote on Cinco de Mayo permissions, parking lot agreement

Posted Apr 20, 2026 3:45 PM

The city of Great Bend is gearing up for Cinco de Mayo festivities on Saturday, May 2. Tonight, the Great Bend City Council will hear several items regarding the celebration.

The consent agenda will include approval of a one-day cereal malt beverage for Fernando Delgadillo at Jack Kilby Square for a beer garden on May 2 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Another item on the consent agenda will close Main Street from 19th Street to Lakin Ave. from 10:30 a.m. to noon that Saturday for the Cinco de Mayo Parade.

The council will also consider approval serving complimentary alcoholic drinks during the 12th annual Art and Wine Walk, which is scheduled on June 5 in downtown Great Bend to coincide with Rocky Mountain Race Week festivities.

The council will also consider rescinding a parking license agreement involving the Great Bend Event Center. In 2011, an agreement was approved that would allow patrons of the Great Bend Event Center and the neighboring hotel, which has since been torn down, to share parking. The agreement is set to expire in 2061. Ownership of the new hotel to be built at that location has requested the city rescind the previous agreement.

Tonight’s city council meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at City Hall.
